Prefab Foundations LLC Presents:

The Fatigue Resistant Foundation System

  • Prefab Foundations, LLC is making a green industry even greener by providing foundations for wind power generators using substantially less materials and transportation than conventional foundations while improving construction logistics and shortening overall project schedule.
  • Prefab Foundations has developed and improved a proprietary foundation system for wind energy projects. We believe that our foundation design is significantly cheaper than the conventional gravity spread footing that is widely used in the industry.
  • Several wind turbine manufacturers have successfully developed large wind turbines with rated power exceeding 3MW. Wind tower hub heights and rotor diameters are gradually increasing to maximize turbine output. Several novel designs that make increased hub heights and rotor diameters possible have been developed. With bigger turbines and higher hub heights, required foundation sizes are larger making conventional spread footings more difficult to construct economically.
  • The installation of the E-126 model turbine by Enercon with a 7 MW rated power required a 29 meter diameter circular foundation with 1,400 cubic meters of concrete and 120 tons of rebar. The installation of the 5M turbine by RePower with a 5MW rated power required a 23 meter diameter circular foundation with 1,300 cubic meters of concrete and 180 tons of rebar. The task of building such large foundations is monumental and requires a great deal of construction planning and logistics.
  • To keep the construction task manageable, alternative designs must be considered.
  • The Fatigue Resistant Foundation System provides a cost-effective solution for the next generation of large wind turbines. We look forward to cooperating with our clients to make wind power generation more economical.
